Summary:BigBox VR is an Oculus Studio known for developing popular multiplayer VR games like POPULATION: ONE, a battle royale shooter that allows players to fly, climb, and fight in an immersive VR world. Founded by industry veterans, BigBox VR focuses on creating social, multiplayer, first person shooters that leverage the full potential of virtual reality. Acquired by Meta in 2021, the BigBox VR is now part of a broader effort to build the future VR games.Seeking an experienced Server and Infrastructure Engineering Manager with a passion for games and technology. The candidate should have a strong sense of quality and know what makes a game enjoyable for players. They should have experience leading a server team to efficiently operate large scale, dynamic products, and make games come to life through scalable, reliable, web services. It is important to thrive in a fast paced environment and communicate high level or low level detail to a wide variety of stakeholders. This role is a key member of the team and a trusted partner that needs to operate with knowledge of each area of the product, its status, and quality level. An ideal candidate has prior experience working in games studios shipping and operating liveops games with regular release cadences. Our Tech Stack: Unity and C#Meta Infrastructure which is written mainly in Hack (AKA: Typesafe Object Oriented PHP)PythonAWS CloudFront, CloudWatch, GameLift, SNSTeamCityRequired Skills:BigBox VR Engineering Manager (Server + Infra) Responsibilities:Create, maintain, and extend server infrastructure that powers all of BigBox VR's games such as POPULATION: ONECreate, maintain and deploy highly reliable server infrastructure within a highly dynamic and iterative team environmentWork hands on, 20% to 50% of your time spent working in the code with the team to design, develop, test and maintain quality code and documentationWork as a team, contributing to important design decisions and conversationsDevelop gameplay and server prototypes and experiments, while researching and recommending novel ideas, new tools, and technologiesTest and support the game as a serviceCollaborate with artists and engineers to implement new developments, help build features, and solve creative problemsAct as an engineering coach to provide feedback, support engineers on career development, and grow their skill sets through mentoringUnblock or accelerate team progress by removing obstacles and being a resourceDevelop, own, and drive a clear vision and strategy for the team through clear goals and excellent communication about how the teams work fits into the bigger pictureMinimum Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:8+ years experience shipping or operating live service games that serve millions of players via highly scalable web services8+ years experience architecting, building, and scaling highly scalable and resilient web services and storage tiers8+ years as an engineer leader in game development or multiple shipped games2+ years experience in an engineering manager role managing direct reportsExperience working in Unity 3D or similar game enginesDemonstrated experience working in self-managed, fast-paced environmentsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experienceDemonstrated history of working well with cross-functional teams and organizationsExperience organizing and leading meetings for planning, scheduling, and/or discussion within the teamExpertise growing and mentoring team membersPreferred Qualifications:Preferred Qualifications:Experience working on AR or VR gamesDeep expertise working in Unity 3D or similar game enginesExperience building first person shootersPublic Compensation:$177,000/year to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefitsIndustry: InternetEqual Opportunity:Meta is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer.
