Job Description:
The Principal of the Lafayette School shall be designated by the
Superintendent of Schools to have the general responsibility, on a
full-time basis, for the proper and efficient operation of the
Lafayette School in all matters of the building management,
academic programs, and clinical milieu.PRE-REQUISITE TRAINING AND
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum: A Master's degree in Education from an accredited
institution in Elementary or Secondary Administration
- Minimum: Five years' experience in Education
- Minimum: Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education Certification as a Principal/Assistant Principal, Grades
K-8
- Experience working with students who have mental health
issuesCandidate should possess:
- Ability to lead a comprehensive, therapeutic special education
school setting.
- Possess the knowledge to develop and lead effective clinical
and academic teams.
- A proven record in the understanding and implementation of
student behavioral support systems.
- Knowledge and understanding of Special Education regulations,
IEP development, and compliance.
- The ability to articulate the district philosophy in the
treatment of students with acute disabilities and academic
objectives to families of ethnically diverse cultures.
- Knowledge of curriculum design and instructional
strategies.
- Candidates should possess in-depth knowledge of Social
Emotional Practices and Evidence-based programs and practices.
- Candidates should possess knowledge of the Collaborative
Inquiry Approach as a force for using data to improve learning for
all.
- Ability to lead a comprehensive K-8 school with high-needs
special education programs.SALARY: Negotiated during the hiring
process.WORKING TIME: The Principal will be required to work 226
days, exclusive of holidays.PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: The Principal
will be evaluated by both the Superintendent and Assistant
Superintendent.GENERAL DUTIES:
- The Principal shall have general charge of the supervision of
the clinical staff and/or adjustment counselors and discipline of
the pupils in the building.
- The Principal shall attend all school events at his/her school
and be visible and active as an educational leader in the
community.
- The Principal shall have general supervision of the staff,
grounds, building, and appurtenance of the school, and shall be
responsible for the neatness and cleanliness of the premises.
- Supervise personnel in accordance with the School Committee
Rules and Regulations, the Everett Teachers Association, and the
Everett School Administrators Association contract.
- Implement and supervise curriculum, establish course outlines
and education objectives consistent with community educational
goals with the Director of Curriculum and the Director of
Guidance.
- Provide leadership and initiative for organizational
improvements.
- Oversee implementation of all Everett Public School district
policies.
- Maintain documentation about the referral process to Special
Education as is regulated by state and federal statutes.
- Adhere to the Everett School Committee's Rules and Regulations
and all directives of the Superintendent of Schools and Assistant
Superintendents.
- Supervise the ordering, delivery, and inventory records of
materials of instruction, textbooks, and equipment.
- Supervise the plans in determining, developing, and
implementing the students' master schedule and related teacher
programs and duties.
- Confer with all line and staff personnel, central office, and
directors as needed.
- Communicate with parents by means of school programs, letter,
telephone, and personal contacts.
- Perform any other duties and assume other responsibilities as
may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and Assistant
Superintendents.The Everett Public Schools, in accordance with its
